A friend of mine shared her tried and true gingerbread recipe for houses. Originally from Croatia, she is an excellent old country baker. She has been using the recipe for decades and swears it’s the best one.
Ingredients
5-6 cup flour (if sticky add more at the end)… it all depends on the humidity.

1 T baking powder

1 1/2 tsp ginger

1 tsp nutmeg

1/2 tsp cloves

2 T cinnamon

1 cup margarine
-
3/4 cup molasses

1 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup water
-
1 egg
-
1 tsp vanilla
Directions

For the houses, roll thin (1/8″) and cut

Needed only 8-9 minutes baking time in preheated oven at 350 F.
Can be made way ahead, and even frozen.
